This luxury rollerball pen in chrome trim is made from Cocobolo.

Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) is a tropical hardwood tree that is native to Central America, mainly found in parts of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Nicaragua. It belongs to the genus Dalbergia, which also includes other valuable and highly sought-after woods like Brazilian Rosewood and African Blackwood.

Cocobolo wood is known for its distinctive coloration and grain pattern. It ranges in color from a reddish-brown to a deep burgundy, often with a pronounced figure that includes swirls and stripes. The wood is extremely dense and hard, with a specific gravity of around 1.0, making it highly resistant to rot and insect damage.

Due to its striking appearance and excellent durability, cocobolo wood is often used in high-end woodworking projects such as fine furniture, cabinetry, and decorative veneers. It is also a popular choice for making musical instruments, particularly acoustic and electric guitars, because of its excellent acoustic properties.

However, cocobolo wood is becoming increasingly rare and expensive due to over-harvesting and deforestation. It is a protected species under international law, and its use is highly regulated. As a result, sustainable alternatives such as Indian Rosewood and Sapele are often used in place of cocobolo for woodworking, musical instrument construction and high-end luxury turnings. Due to the fact this is a genuine rosewood, legislation prohibits shipment outside the continental United States due to CITES II legislation.

The deep deep orange brownish hue is accented by a subtle orange tone with black streaks.

This Cocobolo pen has been designed to have a streamlined style that allows for an elegant pen that feels, writes and has that jaw dropping appeal.

Size is approximately that of a Sharpie. It’s fast action threaded cap makes it easy to use while on the go, as an everyday carry pen. The sleek chrome trim is unique in that it is both decorative & modest.

I use premium German made Ink, with your choice of medium or fine point, as well as your choice of color; black or blue. Refills as always, are included with each pen purchased along with a velvet sleeve for presentation and display.

This particular pen is finished with several 2lb cuts of shellac and a high quality carnauba wax.

This rollerball pen is made from highly-figured black cherry burl. Size is approximately that of a Sharpie. It’s fast action threaded cap makes it easy to use while on the go, as an everyday carry pen. The sleek polished chrome trim is unique in that it is both decorative & modest.

I use premium German made Ink. Your choice of medium or fine point and black or blue ink (gel cartridges–Pilot G2 brand–available upon request at no extra charge). Refills as always, are included with each pen purchased along with a velvet sleeve for presentation and display.

This particular pen is finished with a heavy cut of dewaxed shellac, after which a coat of stringed instrument lacquer is applied for both durability and sheen, then polished with Bowling Alley paste wax for that extra touch.

Extraordinarily time consuming, not to just craft with expertise & precision, but to log and mill entirely myself, cherry burl is a domestic wood that is usually considered to be in the same class as mahogany for usage in the United States (source: Bell Forest Products). It is a wood for fine furniture & luxury items. The stiff & strong wood has complex interwoven grain with incredible blue streaks to birdseye-like speckles. Black cherry is also prized for being “photoreactive” —in other words—it darkens with exposure to light. This the reason cherry is known for its dark reddish hue with age.

It’s finished with my proprietary friction polish which is primarily composed of dewaxed shellac. After, it was polished with Bowling Alley paste wax for a feel and shine second to none.

This Gaboon Ebony ballpoint pen is handcrafted from one of the most prized pieces of timber on our planet. Accordingly, many Ebony pieces have prominent streaks of brown which distract from the best quality Ebony which has a near total lack of color. simply black. This is one of those nearly ‘hue-less’ pieces you’ll ever come across.

More information: Gaboon Ebony is an exotic wood native to Western Africa. It is an extremely hard, dense, and heavy wood, with a very fine texture. The sapwood is pink to pale red-brown in color, while the heartwood is a uniform jet-black or black-brown streaked. Gaboon Ebony is perhaps the most sought-after exotic wood in the world, as it is the traditional fingerboard “wood of choice” for orchestral stringed instruments (violins, violas, cellos, etc.) along with high-end piano keys and chess sets. Ebony is rare, and in high demand. Accordingly, legislation prohibits shipment outside the continental United States due to CITES II legislation.

This fine Brazilian Tulipwood ballpoint pen is perfect for on the go, especially when you want to make that subtle statement. This particular pen comes in gunmetal trim & is perfect for everyone from the everyday writer, regular use at work, all the way to the pen collector.

**This can be converted to a gel pen by simply using a standard Parker-style cartridge. They’re interchangeable with the Parker-style cartridge currently installed. Please let me know if you’d like this as a gel pen instead and I will happily swap out cartridges.**

Brazilian tulipwood, scientifically known as Dalbergia decipularis & Dalbergia frutescens, is a rare and highly sought-after hardwood species native to Brazil. It is also referred to as Brazilian rosewood or jacaranda-da-bahia. Despite the name, it is not related to tulipwood derived from the tulip tree (Liriodendron spp.).

Appearance-wise, Brazilian tulipwood features a stunning combination of colors and patterns. The heartwood of the tree displays various shades of pink, purple, and red, often with streaks of yellow or orange. The coloration can be highly variable, ranging from pale pink to a deep reddish hue. The sapwood, in contrast, is typically a pale yellow color and serves as a nice contrast to the darker heartwood.

The grain pattern of Brazilian tulipwood is usually straight, but it can also exhibit interlocking or wavy patterns, adding to its visual appeal. It possesses excellent dimensional stability, which means it is less prone to warping, shrinking, or expanding due to changes in humidity or temperature. The wood is known for its hardness and density, making it suitable for various applications that require a robust and long-lasting material.

Brazilian tulipwood has been traditionally used in high-end cabinetry, furniture making, veneers, musical instruments (such as guitars and ukuleles), turned objects, and other specialty items. Its scarcity and unique beauty have made it a favorite among collectors and enthusiasts.

However, it is essential to note that due to overexploitation and unsustainable harvesting practices in the past, Brazilian tulipwood is now considered endangered and listed under CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) Appendix II. This listing prohibits the international trade of Brazilian tulipwood without proper permits to ensure its conservation and protection.
