This exquisite genuine rosewood fountain pen is handmade from a very select piece of cocobolo & comes in a black velvet sleeve.

Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) is a tropical hardwood tree that is native to Central America, mainly found in parts of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Nicaragua. It belongs to the genus Dalbergia, which also includes other valuable and highly sought-after woods like Brazilian Rosewood and African Blackwood.

Cocobolo is known for its distinctive coloration and grain pattern. It ranges in color from a reddish-brown to a deep burgundy, often with a pronounced figure that includes swirls and stripes. The wood is extremely dense and hard, with a specific gravity of around 1.0, making it highly resistant to rot and insect damage.

Due to its striking appearance and excellent durability, cocobolo wood is often used in high-end woodworking projects such as fine furniture, cabinetry, and decorative veneers. It is also a popular choice for making musical instruments, particularly acoustic and electric guitars, because of its excellent acoustic properties.

However, cocobolo is becoming increasingly rare and expensive due to over-harvesting and deforestation. It is a protected species under international law, and its use is highly regulated. As a result, sustainable alternatives such as Indian Rosewood and Sapele are often used in place of cocobolo for woodworking, musical instrument construction and high-end luxury turnings. Due to the fact this is a genuine rosewood, legislation prohibits shipment outside the continental United States due to CITES II legislation.

The fountain pen is a nicely sized, and comes in gold trim w/ a center gold accent band & finely threaded triple start cap, which allows for the writer to easily unscrew & write away with minimal effort. The cap can be either posted for the writer who prefers a particular balance, or unposted for a luxurious feel as the nib glides across whatever stationary one chooses. The nib itself is made by JoWo for Anderson Pens. JoWo is a high-end German based company that specializes in fine writing instruments and accessories. Needless to say, you get smooth & dependable ink flow.

This true rosewood fountain pen comes with a JoWo Medium (M) as is. I stock Fine (F), and Extra Fine (EF), JoWo Nibs in both silver and gold. Don’t hesitate to ask if you’d like the size changed.
